GILLIAN
SIMPSON

DIRECTOR/EDITOR/VFX

A successful editor for 16 years, 6 of them staff at the BBC, Gillian worked on many BAFTA award winning programs across all genres including documentaries, children’s and music. 

She was director on BBC’s The Music Show where she shot, directed and edited a number of music videos. 

She then moved to the Innovations department, working to create a ground-breaking drama shot entirely against green screen.

 

Editing over 40 documentaries developed her love for storytelling and she began writing original short films. 

She also fell in love with VFX whilst main editor on the BAFTA-winning children’s series ‘Raven’, and successfully applied to the Digital Effects MA course at National Film and Television School.

 

She was VFX supervisor on a number of short film including ‘Wild Horses’, which was officially selected for Cannes, and ‘Poles Apart’ which won the BAFTA for Best Animated short and the Audience Award at the Edinburgh International Film Festival.

Most recently she was VFX supervisor on the horror feature ‘The Midwife’

 

Gillian has worked on Wes Anderson’s ‘Isle of Dogs’ and ‘The French Dispatch’ and Tim Burton’s ‘Dumbo’. She also worked on Andy Serkis’s ‘Venom 2’ and Matthew Vaughn’s ‘The King’s Man’ She recently completed work on Season One of House of the Dragon

 

Alongside her VFX work, Gillian continued writing and directing shorts including ‘The Ticket’, which was shortlisted by the BBC Films Bridge to Industry fund, and her last short ‘Charged’, was selected for a number of festivals including Video Art and Experimental Film Festival in New York. 

Currently in post production on her latest shot ‘Dandelion’ she is also adapting the award winning play ‘Grenades’ which she hopes will be her first feature.

 

She was recently accepted as a full member of BAFTA

Produced the feature film and short version of "Indigo Valley", Directed by Jaclyn Bethany, set in the US and Iceland. Available on Amazon Prime and Apple TV.

Hollie Buhagiar is a multi award-winning Gibraltarian composer based in London, who
specialises in crafting bespoke scores for film and TV.

Her experience spans worldwide and includes work for the likes of Amazon, Sky, Channel 4, BFI, NOWNESS,

Creative England, Tate, The Guardian, Film London, VICE and BBC.
Her projects have received critical acclaim winning various prestigious awards, these include a Porsche Award, a Gold British Arrow and the McLaren Award for Best British Animation. 

One of her works Poles Apart won the 2018 British Short Animation BAFTA.
Hollie also received the 2018 Best Composer award at the Underwire Film Festival and was nominated for the 2018 Best Sound Design Offie Award 

with her theatre debut in Collective Rage: A Play in Five Betties. 2020 has seen her take home the Gold for Best Music Track at the LA Motion Picture Festival,

 the Best Music award at the Top Indie Awards, and a nomination for Best Music at the UK Fashion Film Festival.
Aside from this, Hollie is an accomplished session vocalist having worked on everything from prime time television shows to worldwide advertising campaigns,

the most recent of which being seasons eleven and twelve of Doctor Who and BBC's I Can See You Voice.

CINEMATOGRAPHER

Angela Neil is a London based Director of Photography working in Film, TV, Commercial and Documentary.
Selected credits include; 2nd Unit DOP on interactive feature film ‘Erica’, TV series ‘Queens of mystery’, ‘Alabama’ and creative DOP for MTV’s ‘Shuga Babi’.
She has also been employed by NBC Universals news team reporting on the COVID-19 Pandemic in Italy, London, Norway and Denmark throughout 2020.
Angela graduated from the NFTS at the begining of 2018 with an MA in Cinematography. Whilst studying, she was awarded the BAFTA and Prince William, Warner Bros Scholarship.
Tutored by Brian Tufano BSC, Nina Kellgren BSC, Stuart Harris and Oliver Stapleton BSC whilst at the NFTS, as well as having the award winning cinematographer Kate Reid BSC as personal mentor.
Prior to the NFTS, Angela worked as a freelance camera operator, shooting online materials for TV Dramas such as Sherlock, Call the Midwife, War and Peace, Luther and others for BBC, ITV and Channel 4 including working as mini cams specialist on the TV show ‘The Jump’.
In 2015 she began working as a cinematographer. Her first short film ‘Araenie Dei’ won Best Drama in the LAIFF Awards and Best Short in the HIMPFF awards.
London born and bred, after completing her degree in Photography and Digital imaging, Angela travelled for several years working abroad as a sailor and hotel manager before returning to the UK to work as a photography assistant.
She worked with many acclaimed photographers of fashion, editorial and advertising, including being 1st assistant to Zena Holloway, multi award winning underwater photographer.
Awards include; Short film ‘The Call Centre’ ECÙ winner. Documentary ‘Abrazame’ IDA nominated. Animation ‘Hedgehog’ winner of several Academy festivals worldwide including the Seoul animation festival.

Daniella Smith is a sound recordist based in London and the South East, working on films, TV, commercials, music videos, charity projects, and shorts. Some of her credits include a commercial for dating app 'Bumble,' featuring actress Aimee Lou Wood; Dipo Baruwa Etti's 'The Last Days,' which won best film at Fantastic Fest; Jack Jewers's 3 part series 'Whatever After;' Geoff Breton's LGBTQ+ short film '6:23am,' starring Charlotte Ritchie and Jade Anouka; Nat Jenkins's short film shot in Chinon, France, 'The New Crusaders,' featuring Gus Unger Hamilton from Alt J, and Luke Pritchard from The Kooks; a promo for Wycombe Swan Theatre's Snow White pantomime with Brendan Cole from Strictly Come Dancing; and a trainee on TV show 'Queens of Mystery.' 

 

Daniella started in the film industry studying Film Production at University, working as a data research volunteer for children's charity Winston's Wish, editing one of their campaigns, and creating motion graphics. She worked as a camera operator for a BBC Introducing music video, and at Gloucestershire Business Show as both a camera operator for Cotswold TV, and Technical Crew for The Production Works, then continued to work with The Production Works as Assistant Stage Manager at a fashion show at Bottle Yard Studios. Daniella feels having a hand in each department at one time or another, has given her a solid understanding of each, and how they work in relation to sound now, which is very beneficial. She left University early to attend a Floor Runners Bootcamp, and work as a runner/driver for Universal Music/Fiction Records on a music video for the band 'The Amazons;' as a floor runner for short film 'Chopped Liver,' with one half of The Kagools comedy duo; casting runner for Kinowork Production's short film 'Ella;' and as a unit cast driver for feature film, 'Trendy.' 

 

Daniella then won a BAFTA scholarship to attend the National Film and Television School in 2016, to study a Postgraduate Diploma in Production Sound for Film and Television, and was awarded the first ever AMPS scholarship that same year, taking part in many NFTS projects, shadowing for a day on feature film 'King Lear,' TV program 'In The Long Run,' with Idris Elba and Bill Bailey, and as an extra on feature film 'Fighting with my Family.' After graduating, she was part of the Sara Putt Trainee Scheme 2018, BAFTA Crew 2019-2020, and undertook extra certification in Coronavirus Safety; Bullying and Harassment in the Workplace; Unconscious Bias in the Workplace; Deaf Awareness on Set; 1st Options Health and Safety on Set; BECTU CRISP Health and Safety on Set; Pro Tools; Avid; and the Legal Rules of Working with Children on Set, with the head of the BBC in that department. 

 

Daniella is a drummer, and enjoys dancing. Prior to the film industry, Daniella worked as a farm labourer;pumpkin picker; Elf; bar tender/team leader; customer assistant; and roller derby NSO. She also studied stunt driving; reiki; graphic design; Exploring the English Language: Medieval to Modern; British Sign Language levels 1, 2, and pre level 3; food health and safety/ fire awareness/ manual handling/ drug and alcohol awareness; attended Cambridge University's Mature Students Summer School to read Law; and most importantly, is a mother to an almost 14 year old girl. 

 

She is currently getting certified in Autism and ADHD awareness, and learning to become fluent in French, Spanish, Italian, and Polish, to be more inclusive alongside her Deaf Awareness course, and British Sign Language levels 1, 2, and pre level 3. She occasionally works as an extra, and still picks pumpkins every year.
